The Junior League of McAllen celebrated its 25th Dias Festivos Marketplace, a shopping extravaganza like no other, in December 2011!  The marketplace weekend, themed Come Experience the Magic of the Season, featured unique gifts and was held at the McAllen Convention Center.  The weekend began on Thursday, December 1st at 7pm with our Preview Party - a night of celebration and spirited giving at which we honored a selected Sustaining Member of the Junior League of McAllen, Yolanda Barerra, for her outstanding contributions and continued service to our community.  Those in attendance at the Preview Party were the first to shop the marketplace from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday.

The doors of the marketplace opened to the public on Friday at 12pm for Holiday Shopping.  Shopping was Friday from 12pm to 6pm, Saturday from 9am to 6pm, and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.  Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand for photographs throughout the weekend.

For over two decades, the Junior League of McAllen has traditionally opened the holiday season with its Dias Festivos Marketplace in order to raise funds for the children of the community.  Untold hours of labor organizing this grand shopping extravaganza result in encouragement and education for the youth in Hidalgo County, Texas.  The event would not be a success without the generous support of our Corporate Sponsors and our Auction Donors.

Dias Festivos, the Junior League of McAllen's holiday gift fair, began in 1987.  It followed a long tradition of fundraisers which included: the first Charity Ball in 1938, the first Follies in 1947, bridge lessons in 1953, the first Artist's Costume Ball in 1954, the first weekly modeling at Jones & Jones in 1957, the first Halloween Barn Dance in 1958, the first rummage sale in 1959, the first Millionaires Party in 1961, the first Spring Bouquet to benefit the McAllen International Museum in 1968 and the first Casino Party in 1981.  Our fundraisers enable us to fulfill our Vision Statement of “significantly improving the lives of children and youth in our community.”
